Heli-Skiing, not for everybody!

Unfortunately heli-skiing is not for everybody - most heli-ski outfitters require that you are at least a strong intermediate skier or snowboarder, some even require that you are an expert in the sport. Since heli-skiing demands a strong ability in skiing powder and because of the remote location it would not be wise for a beginner to attempt this activity.

Heli-Skiing Equipment
Modern fat skis are considered to be essential for all but the most accomplished skiers. Fat skis are better for powder and the most recent models are considered superior because they give better control than earlier models over firm snow where edging and carving are important. Snowboarders are well equipped, since the wide base of a snowboard is ideal for powder snow conditions. Clothing is generally the same as for any ski outing. Many recommend that one should dress in layers allowing you to adapt to changing conditions as you descend the mountain. A good idea is to wear one piece, waterproof ski suit over your layered clothing with proper ski gloves to prevent snow from getting in. Sun glasses and sunscreen are a must, especially in spring skiing conditions. Many heli-ski experts agree that bringing a hydration backpack is a good idea. One should also bring proper ski goggles and a warm ski hat - baseball caps are not suitable since they can easily be blown off. Snow boarders may also find that collapsible ski poles that can be stored in a knap sack may prove useful - it is possible that a bit of trekking may be necessary to find suitable snowboarding runs.
